    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid applying method which is capable of properly applying paste or water to envelopes when the envelopes are sealed even if the envelopes have a triangle or circular arc flap, and to provide a fluid coating machine.
      SOLUTION: An edge position measuring sensor 24 is arranged on the way to the conveyance pathway by a band conveyor 2. The edge position can be measured in accordance with the amount of shading when the flap F1 passes the measuring range of the edge position measuring sensor 24. The inclination of the edge Δy/Δx can be calculated by measuring the edge position for every constant pulse of an encoder 18, provided that the amount of change of the measured position is indicated as Δy and the amount of transfer of the envelope E1 is indicated as Δx between the constant pulses. The paste and water is applied on the envelopes in accordance with the profile of the flap F1 by transferring the spraying nozzle 26 according to the inclination.

Thereby, the spray nozzle 10a is lifted drawing an inclined traveling locus and moved to the outside of the cavity 12 taking the shortest route.
