    • PURPOSE:To prevent irregular flickering by protruding the end portions of a tungsten coil filament used as the discharge electrode located outside its joint areas toward the discharge space. CONSTITUTION:When joining a tungsten coil filament 6 used as a discharge electrode for a fluorescent lamp to lead wires 8 buried in a stem 7, the end portions 10 and 10 of the filament 6 located outside its joint areas are curled toward the discharge space to form protruding ends 11 and 11. When the discharge electrode becomes an anode, electrons are concentrated on the ends 11 and 11 to produce rapid ionization in the anode area achieving accurate repetition of generation and suppression of ions, thereby stably producing anodic vibration. Accordingly, it is possible to greatly alleviate uncomfortable flickering which occurs after 1,000hr of lighting until the end of service life.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a fluorescent lamp with reduced electrode loss good efficiency, smaller flux deterioration and longer duration of life by applying an insulating material on at least inner part from the filament of a supporting line for supporting an electrode filament. CONSTITUTION:An insulating material 13 such as an inorganic adhesive is applied on the tube inner part of a supporting line 11 for supporting a filament 6a constituting an electrode. With this constitution, the tube inner end part of the filament 6a as shown by a point A becomes a positive electrode in a positive electrode cycle, and a discharge current flows through the filament 6a as shown in the figure by a dot line B. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent any drop of hot spot temperature in the positive electrode cycle, allowing lamp efficiency to be finally improved.
