    • PURPOSE:To extract and remove the volatile contaminant present in the interstices of soil above an underground water level and the contaminant mixed with underground water from a single well and to control the period extracting air or underground water containing a contaminant or the extraction amt. thereof. CONSTITUTION:A well hole 1 is bored in the ground in which a contaminant is present and a perforated pipe having apertures formed on the peripheral surface thereof from the upper part to the lower part thereof above a natural underground water level is inserted and arranged in the well hole 1. A water pumping-up pump 5 reduces the pressure in the perforated pipe 2 to suck and extract air in the interstices of soil and discharges the underground water flowing in the perforated pipe 2. At this time, the water pumping-up pressure of the pump 5 is made higher than the suction pressure allowed to act on the interior of the perforated pipe 2. The well hole l and the perforated pipe 2 are formed so as to reach the water impermeable layer 23 under an underground water-containing layer 22 and apertures are also desirably formed in the vicinity of the leading end of the perforated pipe 2.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promote the growth of a plant for a long period by improving acid soil using a microorganism. SOLUTION: The surface of the acid soil is scattered with a carrier for the microorganism comprising a natural polymeric material such as a bean-curd refuse and a carrier for the microorganism comprising an inorganic porous material such as zeolite and the acid soil is mechanically stirred and mixed with the carriers. The surface of the resultant soil is then scattered with seeds of the plant. A microorganism having the tolerance in the presence of high- concentration aluminum and adsorbing and removing aluminum ions is used as the microorganism and, e.g. Corynebacterium sp. SS-6994 described in Japanese Unexamined Publication Number 10-271990 can be used. The microorganism may previously be made to stick to the carrier and mixed together with the carrier into the soil. Otherwise, the microorganism, together with seeds of the plant, may be mixed with water and sprayed onto the surface of the soil by spraying. Shell lime, etc., together with the carrier, can be mixed into the soil.
