    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a TIG(tungsten inert gas) welding method and equipment, a type of inert gas arc welding method and equipment which enable reduction of man-hour for welding through effective cooling that is important particularly in the welding of a zirconium material, enable enhancement of economical efficiency through reduction in the use of an inert gas such as Ar gas, and realize a weld zone of stable quality. SOLUTION: In the TIG welding, an arc is generated between a tungsten electrode 16 and the tip grooves a, b of zirconium-used steel tubes W1 , W2 in an Ar gas atmosphere to carry out welding with the heat of the arc. A gas cooling device 30 is arranged midway in a gas feeding pipe 18 between an Ar gas cylinder 17 and a workpiece holder 20 and cools the Ar gas to a temperature of -50 to -60 deg.C. The cooled Ar gas G2 , G3 is sent to the workpiece holder 20 and supplied from the outside of a steel tube butt-weld zone as an after shielding gas G2 ; it is also sent into the steel tube and supplied from the inside of the butt-weld zone as a back shielding gas G3 . As a result, the cooling speed of the weld zone is increased, thus, reducing the welding performance time.
