    • PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic disc free from surface defects, superior in etching resistance, and high in reliability, by forming a thin nonmagnetic iron oxide film on an aluminum or its alloy base, and on this film a thin ferromagnetic iron oxide film. CONSTITUTION:The thin nonmagnetic film 3 of alpha-Fe2O3 is formed on a base plate 4 made of aluminum or alloy consisting mainly of it in the presence of gaseous argon contg. a prescribed amt. of O2 in a reduced pressure by the high frequency wave sputtering method, and a Fe3O4 layer is formed on the layer 3 by the sputtering method, and then, it is oxidized under heating at 300 deg.C to convert it into a ferromagnetic iron oxide layer 2 of gamma-Fe2O3. Otherwise, the film 3 is reduced in a gaseous H2 stream to form an Fe3O4 layer down to a prescribed depth from the surface, and it is oxidized under heating to give gamma- Fe2O3 and the layer 2 is formed on this layer 3 converted. Next, a lubricant and protective layer 1 is formed on the layer 2. Since the layer 3 is good in etching resistance and it prevents diffusion of Fe or O into the base 1 and also diffusion of aluminum into the layer 2 and deterioration of magnetic characteristics during formation of the layer 2, a superior magnetic disc is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To attain favorable burnishing effect without damage on the work in such a way that an electromagnet is excited by alternating current, and peak pressure and average pressure are properly controlled. CONSTITUTION:In a burnishing process to smooth surfaces of aluminum base plate and magnetic pellicle of a magnetic disc, or the like, electric current is flowed from an electric current source 5 to coils 4, 4', burnishing heads 4, 4' are magnetized to each other, by which the burnishing heads 4, 4' are pushed to the upper and lower surfaces of the magnetic disc 1. Electric current to be flowed to the coils 4, 4' is alternating current which includes direct current bias content, average pressure is determined by the direct current bias content, and peak pressure is determined by the peak of the alternating currrent content. Actual burnishing effect can be attained at the time of this peak pressure. This process facilitates to attain favorable burnishing effect without damage on the work.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an ultra-highly accurate smooth surface of a base plate, by controlling the tip angle, pressing force, scratching speed, etc. of a diamond press-element having grooves each defined by convex parts for cutting fine projections on the surface of the base plate and a concave part for exhausting the removed projections. CONSTITUTION:The floated height of a vanishing head 2 floated above a disc base plate 1 is controlled by a chaning the rotational speed of the disc 1. That is, when the floated height is reduced due to the lowering of the speed, a reciprocating seek is carried out for removing fine projections 3 by controlling the speed at a constant value in accordance with an electrically detected signal which is generated upon convex parts of grooves 4 formed in the slider surface of the head 2 being touched to the fine projections 3. The surfaces of the magnetic disc base plate 1 is subjected to surface-treatment with a liquid or solid lubricant for preventing the surface of the base plate from being deteriorated due to the friction of the vanishing head, and for promoting the exhausting of the removed fine projections.

    • PURPOSE:To subject the surface of a recording medium to vanish finishing surely and stably, by controlling rotation drive of the disc-shaped recording medium according to force acted on a vanishing head. CONSTITUTION:Force corresponding to vanish force is applied to vanishing head 2 incorporated in carriage 9. Force changed by the relative speed between rotating magnetic disc 1 and head 2 is detected by sensor 3 such as a strain gauge, and motor 6 for driving disc 1 is controlled through motor driving circuit 7 according to the detection output, and rotation drive of disc 1 is so controlled that vanish force may be a value within a required proper range, thus vanishing and smoothing always protrusions in the inside part and the outside part of disc 1, which are different in rotation speed, surely and stably independently of heavy and light loads.
