    • PURPOSE:To stably refine an aq. iron ion-contg. soln. such as waste pickling soln. by electrodialysis for a long period while preventing the deterioration of an ion- exchange membrane by pressurizing the cathode compartment and conducting electrodialysis at a pressure higher than that in an anode compartment. CONSTITUTION:This electrolytic cell consists of an anode compartment and a cathode compartment, the anode compartment and the cathode compartment are isolated from each other with an ion-exchange membrane, an aq. iron ion-contg. soln. is introduced into the anode compartment as an anolyte, and an aq. soln. contg. an inorg. salt (e.g. Na2SO4) and a PH buffer is charged into the cathode compartment as a catholyte. The cathode compartment is pressurized, and electrodialysis is conducted at a pressure higher than that in the cathode compartment. Consequently, the cation- exchange membrane is not approached to the cathode, the stagnation of the catholyte is prevented, the trouble such as the scorching of the cation-exchange membrane causing deposition of magnetite on the ion-exchange membrane is prevented, and the waste pickling soln. contg. iron ion is stably operated for a long period as compared with the conventional process.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage at the start of operating an ion exchange membrane fitted to an electrolytic cell in an ion exchange membrane electrolysis method.
