    • Embodiments of a method of forming a glass article are disclosed. The methods include supplying a glass ribbon in a first direction and redirecting the glass ribbon to a second direction different from the first direction without contacting the glass ribbon with a solid material. The glass ribbon may exhibit a viscosity of less than about 108 Poise and a thickness of about 1 mm or less. Embodiments of a glass or glass-ceramic forming apparatus are also disclosed. The apparatus may include a glass feed device for supplying a glass ribbon in a first direction and a redirection system disposed underneath the glass feed device for redirecting the glass ribbon to a second direction. In one or more embodiments, the redirection system comprising at least one gas bearing system for supplying a gas film to support the glass ribbon.

    • The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing flat sheets of a glass-based material and to a device associated with the process. The process comprises passing a stream of the material (10) through a reservoir (24) comprising a hollow central portion defined and delimited by the porous walls (12) of the reservoir, in which the material accumulates and through which it flows, in an almost steady state and with a limited residence time, any contact between the material and the walls being prevented, the hollow central part of the reservoir having a substantially rectangular, horizontal cross-section whose width decreases continuously from a maximum width D to a minimum width D', in the direction of flow of the material, over at least a portion of the flow path of the material. The drawn glass has a viscosity less than about 10 7 poise at an outlet of the reservoir (24).
