    • A boat lift (10) for use with a boat (40) and an ocean structure (20) is provided, wherein the lift (10) includes one or more mechanisms (100, 120) for raising the boat (40) in respect of the structure (20) and/or for lowering the boat (40) in respect of the structure (20). The one or more mechanisms (100, 120) are mounted to the boat (40), and the one or more mechanisms (100, 120) are adapted to engage onto one or more upright members (130) of the structure (20). Each mechanism (100, 120) includes a configuration of at least two rollers (120A, 120B) for engaging onto the one or more upright members (130), the at least two rollers (120, 120B) being adapted to be forced in operation into engagement onto the one or more upright members (130) by a weight of the boat (40) acting upon the at least two rollers (120A, 120B). The lift (10) further includes lifting actuators (140) operable to rotate one or more of the rollers (120A, 120B). The structure (20) includes one or more of: a portion of an oil rig, a hull of a cargo vessel, a base of a tower of a large offshore wind turbine, a central floating platform of an ocean wave energy park, a passenger ship.

    • A vessel launch and retrieval system and method are disclosed with a cage that can surround a vessel and variable elevation float. The variable elevation float allows the vessel in the cage to be guided throughout the process of launch and retrieval, because the cage moves in elevation relative to the float. On launch, the cage with the vessel surrounded by the cage members can be lowered into the water until the vessel is floating above the surrounding members sufficiently to allow the vessel to exit the cage. The variable elevation float guides the vessel as it enters the water and continues to guide as the vessel begins to float and finally clears the surrounding members. Retrieval can generally reverse the process.

    • Personnel evacuation apparatus (10) for use with an offshore platform (11) comprises a launching ramp (12) that is mounted to the platform by a gimbal (33) and is stowed in a vertical position with a survival vessel (14) secured at the entry end of the ramp. A release mechanism (18) activatable from the deck of the platform (11) enables flotation members (24) secured to the exit end of the ramp, to pivot the ramp about the gimbal to its deployed position. In a preferred embodiment the gimbal (33) further permits the ramp to maintain a usable orientation inspite of inclination of the deck of the platform by 25° due to pitch, roll or yaw. The exit end (20) will pivot under wave action so as to gravity launch the survival vessel (14) downwind and, upon release of the boat securement, carry the vessel safely away from the platform.
