    • A method for manufacturing a float glass includes the steps of: feeding molten glass onto molten metal having a specific gravity greater than the molten glass and contained in a float glass making furnace and flowing the molten glass to the downstream side with the molten glass being floated on the surface of the molten metal, thereby forming the molten glass into a shape of plate. The method includes a further step of causing a foreign-substance entrapping metal under its molten state to contact an upper surface of the molten glass on the molten metal, the foreign-substance entrapping metal having a melting point lower than the softening point of the glass and being capable of entrapping either a precipitate which is precipitated on the upper surface of the molten glass or an attachment which is formed thereon.

    • The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a glass sheet by the float glass process, i.e. by forming molten glass on a molten metal bath (5) into a glass ribbon (10), the method comprising making a bottom surface (10b) of the glass ribbon (10) uneven by bringing said bottom surface (10b) into contact with a roller (7) arranged downstream from the metal bath (5) of the float tank in a conveyance direction of the glass ribbon (10) and upstream of an annealing furnace (3). Preferably the roller (7) is the lift-out roller, which has an uneven surface and so applies a pattern to the bottom surface (10b) of the glass ribbon. While the latter is still of suitably low viscosity.     • The glass sheet production method of the present invention includes the steps of: (I) bringing a mixed gas into contact with at least one surface of a sheet-shaped glass material so as to change a surface morphology of the glass material to an extent that light scattering properties of the glass material are changed, the mixed gas containing a fluorine element (F)-containing acid A and a chlorine element (Cl)-containing acid B and having a molar ratio of water to the acid A (molar concentration of water / molar concentration of acid A ) of less than 5, the glass material containing at least sodium as a component and having a temperature in a range from a glass transition temperature to a temperature 300°C higher than the glass transition temperature; and (II) cooling the sheet-shaped glass material obtained in the step (I) so as to obtain a glass sheet.
