摘要： A tool assembly includes an elongated handle and a locking system for attaching a tool head to the handle. The tool head can be a floor care tool or other accessory that can be attached to the handle such that the elongated length of the handle can aid in the use of the tool attached. The locking system includes a keyed locking collar for engaging at least a first portion of the tool head, and a locking cap rotatably positioned on the handle for engaging a second portion of the tool head. The handle can be extendable, such as by telescoping, and can also be overmolded.

摘要： An elongated handle (10) has a proximal elongated plastic section (12) joined to a distal metal section (14). The plastic section (12) is provided with a plurality of flexible, longitudinally ribbed tabs (32,34) extending outwardly thereof, at least one of which has an outwardly extending cross longitudinal rib (33). The distal section has internal longitudinal grooves (41) that receive the longitudinal ribs (31), and also has a circumferential groove (43) formed in its internal surface for engaging the cross longitudinal rib (33). A self threading screw (40) from the distal portion (14) into the proximal portion (12) engages the tabs (32,34), urging them outward into locking engagement with the longitudinal and circumferential grooves (41,43). The screw (40) distributes mechanical stresses away from the metal-plastic interface, and is isolated from the distal section (14) by the tabs (32,34), so that the screw (40) does not loosen when the handle (10) is subjected to flexion and torsion.

摘要： A handle for a portable tool has secured to it spindle 15 which is engageable in a nut 12 held captive in thetool casing. The spindle is encircled by a flange 18 having on one face ratchet teeth 27 which co-operate with complementary teeth 26 in a boss 25 on the casing, the flange being capable of axial movement relative to the spindle 15 against the bias of a spring 24 to allow the teeth 27 to ride over the teeth 26. The handle cannot become unscrewed accidentally but can be unscrewed when the flange is pressed outward against the spring 24.
