摘要： A method of peeling nuts, in particular chestnuts, comprises the step of exposing the nuts to a source of sulphur dioxide for a sufficient time to facilitate the removal of the shell and/or skin layers thereof, and thereafter removing the shell and/or skin layers from the nuts. Treatment of the nuts with a source of sulphur dioxide is also used to extend the post-harvest shelf-life of the nuts, optionally together with an anti-transferant to prevent moisture loss.

摘要： An improved apparatus for blanching nuts, particularly peanuts, is provided wherein nuts are fed onto a conveyor belt (20) by a single feeder means (56) which carries them against a diagonally positioned nut engaging means (50) that has a nut discharge end which extends beyond the edge of the conveyor belt (20). The nuts are rotated by the simultaneous forces of the conveyor belt (20) and the nut engaging means (50), during which their skins are removed. After the nuts traverse the width of the conveyor belt (20) against the nut engaging means (50), they are deposited into a collecting hopper at the side of the conveyor belt, where they await the next stage of preparation.
