摘要： There is provided a method of charging a hollow valve with metallic sodium easily and swiftly without being oxidized over the surface of the metallic sodium and an apparatus therefor. The metallic sodium is fed into a cavity of the hollow valve in which a valve stem has a smaller diameter.
A workpiece 1, a semi-finished product for a hollow poppet valve, is disposed at a working position X where an opening 4a is directed upward. A cavity 4 of the workpiece 1 is open at a free end of the valve stem 2. A nozzle 7 is inserted into the opening 4a. An inert gas is jetted from the nozzle 7 and is fed into the cavity 4. Then, the nozzle 7 is moved up, and a holder 11 that holds the rod-like metallic sodium 10 is disposed between the workpiece 1 and the nozzle 7. While the inert gas is jetted from the nozzle 7, the metallic sodium 10 is pressed into the cavity 4 of the workpiece 1.

摘要： Provided is a method for producing a hallow engine valve which can easily produce a hallow engine valve in which strength is improved and weight is reduced. Specifically, provided is a method for producing a hallow engine valve which involves gradually reducing the size of the outer diameter and inner diameter of a hallow shaft of a semi-finished product (10a), sequentially inserting the hallow shaft into a plurality of molding holes (M1, M2', M(m-1), Mm, M(n-1), Mn) having different hole shapes so as to gradually extend the length of the hallow shaft, and forming the hallow shaft into a predetermined shape by sequentially performing said drawing process, wherein the semi-finished product (10a) is subjected to heat treatment such that the hardness thereof is equal to or less than a predetermined hardness, and the maximum thickness (t2') between the hallow shaft and an umbrella portion connected to the bottom edge of the hallow shaft is formed to be thicker than the thickness (t2) of the hallow shaft by means of molding hole (M2') of a die (Di2') which is adjusted to have a specific length (L2') and maximum inner diameter (D2').

摘要： A titanium engine valve (10) is fabricated with discrete head (10) and stem portions (15), preferably joined by inertia welding and/or diffusion bonding. The joint (32) between the head and stem portions is located well up on the valve stem so that it is not exposed below the valve guide (30). The head portion including a fillet region and lower stem region is composed of a first material comprising titanium, such as a conventional high strength titanium alloy. Alternatively, the head portion may consist of a cast or forged heat treated TIC. The stem portion which is not directly exposed to the hostile environment of the combustion chamber is composed of a second material comprising titanium, such as mill annealed titanium alloy rod stock. The resulting valve is, therefore, much less expensive to manufacture than a conventional titanium valve without sacrificing any mechanical characteristics in the portions of the valve subjected to high stress and temperature.
