    • A tubesheet protector device (16) is provided for use with a boiler (14) having at least one tube (28) for receiving a fluid extending therethrough. The tubes (28) extend approximately perpendicularly from a tubesheet (34) covering an inlet of the boiler (14). The tubesheet protector device (16) includes insulating board (38) mounted on the tubesheet (34) having holes (36) therein for receiving ferrules (40). Each ferrule (40) includes a shank (42) adapted to be received in one of the tubes (28) and a polygon-headed collar (44) coupled with the shank (42). Both the collar (44) and the shank (42) of the ferrule (40) are wrapped in insulation (46). The collar (44) has dimensions larger than the outside diameter of the tube (28), and the collar (44) and the shank (42) both have a common through bore (14) for transporting fluid from outside the boiler to the interior of the tubes (28) extending through the boiler (14).

    • A protective wall structure (38) for protecting boiler tubing in facilities using refuse as a fuel source to produce steam for electrical power generation. The protective wall structure includes an array of shielding tiles (44), heat transfer bonding material (46), and elongated compressible material (48). The shielding tiles include a front surface (52) facing the interior combustion zone of the facility, a rear surface (54) facing the boiler tubes, and a plurality of sidewall surfaces. The heat transfer bonding material is positioned between the boiler tubes (40) and the rear surfaces of the shielding tiles to permit heat transfer and create a bond between the boiler tubes and the shielding tiles. The elongated compressible material is positioned between the sidewall perimeter surfaces of adjacent shielding tiles to provide an expansion joint. This permits relative expansion between adjacent shielding tiles without cracking upon an increase in temperature in the interior combustion zone.
