摘要： An intelligent services network platform (ISN) of a telephone carrier network is equipped with a fax store and forward (FSFS, 10) capable of relaying fax transmission between a customer's fax machine (14) and an international destination. An autodialer (15) associated with the fax machine (14) automatically dials an 800 number designating the FSFS (10). It also automatically dials the preselected destination number and concurrently transmits an identification of the transmitting fax machine. An automatic call distributor (22) in the ISN (12) responds to the 800 number and transfers the fax transmission to an automated response unit (26) which validates the customer's call. Thereafter, the FSFS (10) is enabled to communicate directly with the sending fax machine to receive and store the transmitted fax. The FSFS (10) will subsequently relay the fax transmission, even if repeated attempts are necessary, to the international destination through a bridging switch (20) in the ISN (12) and an international gateway switch (18) connected to the network (16), external of the ISN (12). The FSFS (10) generates confirmations for the customer and billing data.

摘要： An operator/facsimile interface enables entry of alpha-numeric data from a telephone-style keyboard (58). Alteration of displayed alpha-numeric characters may be accomplished by actuation of arrow keys (78), or sequential key presses of an alpha-numeric key (58). A displayed alpha-numeric character may be entered by actuation of an arrow key (78), an Enter key (64) or a different alpha-numeric key (58). Completion of an alpha-numeric entry may be signaled by actuation of a Start key (66) or Enter key (64). The operator/facsimile interface enables a telephone number to be stored for subsequent recall by any of five separate procedure pathways. 摘要： A system and method for facilitating facsimile transmissions has one or more store and forward facilities (8, 18) each associated with a plurality of subscriber facsimile machines (1, 3, 28, 30), typically coupled over the switched telephone network. The store and forward facilities include a computer for controlling operations and mass data storage equipment. A subscriber to the system delivers an outgoing facsimile message to the store and forward facility with which it is associated, which records the fax message together with data as to originating facsimile machine and destination facsimile machine. The store and forward facility then delivers the facsimile message to the intended receiver facsimile machine, either directly or through another store and forward facility. If unsuccessful on an initial attempt, the store and forward facility periodically retries to send the facsimile message. The system also provides spooling of all facsimile messages for an intended receiver machine, which are all transmitted upon making connection with the receiver machine.
