摘要： A novel method and system is provided for dynamically selecting, assembling and inserting content into streaming media. The system and method allow for the selection of the content to be inserted into a streaming media program to be performed after the manifest, or equivalent, defining the streaming media program has been provided to a rendering device and to allow the selection of multiple pieces of content to fill a defined insertion point duration, provided only that the total duration of the selected pieces of content equal the duration of the defined insertion point. Selected pieces of content to be inserted are assembled by the system and method into an assembled emulated single piece of content which removes the need for discontinuity indicators, or equivalents, to be placed in the manifest between the selected pieces of content.

According to the technique, among a plurality of contents to be transmitted to a data reception device, two or more contents are set as main contents, and the remaining contents are set as stand-by contents. One of the two or more main contents is set as a broadcasting content to be broadcasted actually, and the remaining main content is set as a switching content. The data transmission device transmits the two main contents to the data reception device via a high-quality line (main content line) and transmits the remaining stand-by contents via a line of a quality lower than the main content line (proxy data transmission line). Contents are switched by interchanging between a broadcasting content and a switching content and interchanging between a switching content and a stand-by content.

摘要： A method for providing a start-over feature in a switched digital video system (100) that allows a user to watch a program from the beginning even through the user has tuned to the channel for the program after the program has begun, comprising: caching a copy of the program on a video server; providing an option to the user to watch the program after it has already begun at a rate that is faster than the real time rate of the program so that it will fit into a duration that is less than the originally scheduled duration for the program; determining the time remaining for the program; receiving a selection from the user of the option; and in response to receiving the selection by the user of the option, streaming the program to the user from its beginning at a rate that is faster than the real time rate of the program so that the viewing time of the stream is substantially the time remaining in the originally scheduled timeslot for the program.
