摘要： Embodiments relate to communicating data by varying a frequency of an amplitude modulated light source. Embodiments may comprise logic such as hardware and/or code to vary a frequency of an amplitude-modulated electromagnetic radiator such as a visible light source, an infrared light source, or an ultraviolet light source. For instance, a visible light source such as a light emitting diode (LED) may provide light for a room in a commercial or residential building. The LED may be amplitude modulated by imposing a duty cycle that turns the LED on and off. In some embodiments, the LED may be amplitude modulated to offer the ability to adjust the intensity of the light emitted from the LED. Embodiments may receive a data signal and adjust the frequency of the light emitted from the LED to communicate the data signal via the light. In many embodiments, the data signal may be communicated via the light source at frequencies that are not perceivable via a human eye.

摘要： A system (100) for transmitting digital information includes a transmitting apparatus (102) for generating an optical signal bearing digital information, a dispersive optical channel (104), and a receiving apparatus (110) for receiving the optical signal. The dispersive optical channel (104) is disposed to convey the optical signal from the transmitting apparatus (102) to the receiving apparatus (110). The transmitting apparatus includes an encoder (114) for encoding digital information into a series of blocks, each including a plurality of data symbols corresponding with one or more bits of digital information. A signal generator (118) generates a time-varying signal corresponding with each of said blocks. An optical transmitter (136) is arranged to apply the time-varying signal to an optical source (138) to produce an optical signal which includes an optical carrier and substantially only a single information bearing optical sideband in an optical frequency domain, the sideband corresponding with the time-varying signal. The receiving apparatus (110) includes an optical detector (146) for detecting the optical signal to produce a corresponding received time-varying electrical signal. The receiver further includes means (166) for generating a series of received data blocks from the time-varying electrical signal. An equaliser (168) performs an equalisation of received data symbols included in each data block to mitigate the effect of dispersion of the optical channel, thereby enabling the transmitted data symbols to be recovered.

摘要： There is provided a light modulator capable of suppressing a desired component by adjusting light intensity of a modulation signal before multiplexed. The light modulator includes an intensity modulator (12) arranged in a waveguide portion between a multiplexing unit of a first sub Mach-Zehnder waveguide (MZA) among a main Mach-Zehnder waveguide (MZC) and a multiplexing unit (6) of the main Mach-Zehnder waveguide (MZC) and modulating intensity of the optical signal propagating in the waveguide portion. Since a signal intensity of a component to be suppressed (carrier component (f0) or high-degree component (such as secondary component (f0 ± 2fm)) among the output signals from the respective sub Mach-Zehnder waveguides is adjusted to be in the same order, it is possible to effectively suppress the component (phase is reversed) to be suppressed when the light signals from the respective Mach-Zehnder waveguides are multiplexed by the multiplexing unit (6).
