    • A current source power conversion circuit according to the present invention is a current source power conversion circuit reducing the number of drive power supplies used and having an inexpensive and simple configuration. An example of the current source power conversion circuit according to the present invention is provided with a plurality of half-bridge rectifier circuits (2r, 2s, 2t) which are connected in parallel, each including a serial connection of a first switch circuit having a first self-turn-off element (3r, 3s, 3t) and a first diode (4r, 4s, 4t) which are connected in series to each other, and a second switch circuit having a second self-turn-off element (5r, 5s, 5t) and a second diode (6r, 6s, 6t) which are connected in series to each other. A first current electrode of said first self-turn-off element (3r, 3s, 3t) in one of said haif-bridge rectifier circuits (3r, 3s, 3t) and a first current electrode of said first self-turn-off element (3r, 3s, 3t) in other one of said half-bridge rectifier circuits (3r, 3s, 3t) are short-circuited and connected.

    • A control system to control at least one of the thyristor converters (1) or (2) of an ac system (7,8) or (9,10) connected by busbars (5,6) and transformers (3,4) to the converters (1,2) which have their dc sides connected by a dc link, for example inductor (11). Each thyristor converter receives firing pulses from a firing control (12) or (13), including a firing angle control (18) and a summing junction (16) receiving a control current signal input (17) and a current signal (14) which is a function of converter operation. An electrical power measurement is made of one of the ac systems, for example the ac system (7,8,5) and in accordance with that power measurement a signal which is a function thereof is produced as an output (19) from an integral two-axis ac servo control having demodulator, integrator and modulator means receiving the power measurement signal as input. Signal (19) is a function of the cross-modulation noise component caused by interaction of electrical noise from the two converters. This signal (19) is input to at least the firing control (12) to vary the firing of thyristor converter (1) so as to remove from at least the ac system (7,8,5) said cross-modulation noise. Signal (19) may also be input to firing control (13).

    • A regulated chopped DC power supply comprising an alternator with a stator and a rotor, the alternator having a three-phase winding for providing a high voltage output (0 &cir& /1, 0 &cir& /2, 0 &cir& /3) and a star-connected three-phase winding for providing a low voltage output. The regulating means (15) being operable in two modes, a car mode in which the rectified low voltage output (B ) is connected to a battery (124) for charging said battery and energising the alternator excitation winding (134) at battery voltage, and in a power mode in which the battery (124) is disconnected from the rectified low voltage output (B ), and the excitation winding (134) is energised from the star point (N) of the low voltage winding of the alternator, this excitation being used to boost the power output (B ) for use in welding, etc.
