    • The device comprises an external inertia element (14) which is fixed to a damping member (16) which is coaxially fixed with respect to a shaft (12) of a stepping motor (13), in such a way that it can rotate together therewith. The external inertia element (14) comprises a metal mass in the form of an annulus of limited thickness. The damping member (16) comprises a first circular flange (17) to which the annulus (14) is fixed, a second circular flange (19) by means of which the device is fixed to the shaft (12), and an annulus (18) of elastomeric material connecting the two flanges. The materials and the dimensions of the device can be calculated, proportioned and pre-arranged in such a way that the device is compact but can stop oscillations of the stepping motor (13) in a very short time. The device is particularly suited to damping the oscillations of a stepping motor which is used for example for positioning a printing member with respect to a print point or for positioning a recording head with respect to a magnetic disc.

    • There is provided a stepping motor comprising: a stator assembly; a rotor assembly rotatably disposed inside the stator assembly, and including a rotary shaft rotatably supported by bearings, a sleeve fixedly attached onto the rotary shaft, and at least one magnet disposed outside the sleeve; and a preloading mechanism disposed between the sleeve and one of the bearings, and including a coil spring, and a spring holder which is composed of an outer case shaped in a cup-like configuration and an inner case shaped in a cup-like configuration, and which is adapted to house the coil spring. In the stepping motor described above, the spring holder of the preloading mechanism is formed of reinforced polyamide resin, and a washer member having a high sliladability is disposed between the preloading mechanism and the one bearing.

    • To increase an operational precision of a stepping motor, a brake plate is fixed to a rotary shaft and limited in a rotary direction. The brake plate is pressed against a brake base with a conical coiled spring so as to limit the rotation of the rotary shaft by using a frictional resistance as a brake torque generated in contact surfaces of both components. Since a constant brake torque is stably generated in the rotary shaft, it is possible to suppress the offset of the rotary shaft and to increase the operational precision of the stepping motor when the magnetization current of the stepping motor is cut in case that the stepping motor is driven by methods such as a one/two phase magnetization and a micro-step control.
