    • An electric motor (1) has a supplementary field magnet (SF) including a magnetization coil (51), a yoke (52) serving as a magnetic path for magnetic flux produced by the magnetization coil (51), and a variable magnet (53). The supplementary field magnet (SF) is arranged on one axial end side of the rotor (4) with a gap. A rotor core (22) is provided with first projections (37) projecting toward one axial end side of the electric motor (1) from first magnetic pole portions (35), and second projections (38) projecting toward the one axial end side from second magnetic pole portions (36) and arranged radially inward of the first projections (37). The yoke (52) includes an outer magnetic pole portion (54) axially opposed to the first projections (37), and an inner magnetic pole portion (55) axially opposed to the second projections (38) such that an annular gap (G) is formed between the inner magnetic pole portion (55) and the outer magnetic pole portion (54).

    • Provided are a field control method and a rotating electric machine of good energy efficiency in a magnetic-excited rotating electric machine. In the magnet-exciting rotating electric machine system of this invention, a rotor surface has magnetic salient poles and island-shaped salient poles alternately in circumferential direction, and the island-shaped salient poles are constituted so that magnetic flux coming from an external source may not be hard to pass through. A magnetic excitation part magnetizes the island-shaped salient poles and the magnetic salient poles collectively in the same direction, and then control amount of magnetic flux crossing armature coils. The armature coil has armature coils that face the magnetic salient poles and the island-shaped salient poles simultaneously so that torque variations and power generation voltage waveform distortion are inhibited. The magnetic excitation part is configured to change magnetization state of a field magnet irreversibly, and to change the amount of magnetic flux supplied by an excitation current, and a rotating electric machine system that enables low current and large torque, high-speed rotation is realized.
