摘要： A method to mitigate an antenna multipath, Rayleigh fading effect. The method includes coupling an antenna on top of a structure, wherein the structure is covered by a radio frequency (RF) radiation absorbing layer, wherein the structure has a shape such that any reflecting surface of the structure is perpendicular to an incoming RF signal.
The method also includes directing the incoming RF signal towards the structure, wherein undesired direct or reflected RF signals are either absorbed by the RF radiation absorbing layer or deflected back to a source of the RF signal, thereby avoiding interference of the undesired RF signal with a desired RF signal aimed at the antenna.

摘要： A method and corresponding apparatus are provided for network configuration selection in a wireless network comprising a plurality of nodes. A subset of the nodes are configured to simultaneously participate in a sounding process, in which a node of the subset omni-directionally transmits a predetermined signal and in which other nodes of the subset of nodes sample the predetermined signal as received by an omni-directional antenna array of that node. Measurement reports are received from the subset of nodes, each measurement report comprising a signal source angle and a received signal strength. A path loss is determined in dependence on each measurement report to generate a set of path losses covering a plurality of transmitter node receiver node pairs. Then a directional configuration is selected for a directional antenna of each node of the subset of nodes for data transmission in dependence on the set of path losses.

摘要： An antenna apparatus operates as a base station in a wireless network, with a method configuring a transmission beam within such antenna apparatus. The antenna apparatus has a rotatable antenna assembly employing selected transmission beam patterns, and a controller to rotate the antenna assembly altering its azimuth direction. During configuration mode, a sweep operation rotates the antenna assembly to selected azimuth directions. Quality metric determination circuitry determines, for each selected azimuth direction, a link quality metric for wireless terminals based on communication between the wireless terminals and the base station whilst the rotatable antenna assembly is at that selected azimuth direction. Transmission beam determination circuitry determines, from the link quality metrics determined for the wireless terminals at each selected azimuth direction, both a transmission beam pattern and an azimuth direction for subsequent communication with the wireless terminals. The antenna apparatus efficiently self-configures its transmission beam pattern and azimuth direction.

摘要： A system configured to provide airborne antenna functionality through the application of a controllable null pattern. Coupled to a transceiver, the antenna of the invention is operable in the same frequency band with other transmit and receive antennas mounted in near proximity on an aircraft body. The antenna radiation pattern is varied so that the antenna radiation main beam direction can be controlled over a defined range. The antenna system addresses problems associated with proximate antenna interference by forming the transmit (or receive) antenna- radiation beam shape away from other antennas so as to mitigate nearby transmitter interference, while improving receive system performance without having power reduction requirement from nearby co- located, co-band operating transmitters. This is accomplished through electrical and mechanical tilt of the antenna.

摘要： A system and method for antenna optimization for wireless broadband communication is provided. Such an enhanced antenna array includes higher-gain antenna and lower-gain antenna. The beamforming antenna, both higher-gain and lower-gain, are designed to be able to transmit to and receive from another transceiver. The higher-gain antenna may be designed to form a more directional beam substantially closer to the horizon; whereas the lower-gain antenna is capable of forming a less directional beam at a distance further from the horizon. In both cases, the antenna may form their respective beams anywhere in the 360 degrees horizontally around the antenna array. The higher-gain antenna may include a coverage area from the horizon to a substantially acute angle from the horizon in the vertical direction. In contrast, the lower-gain antenna may have coverage from the substantially acute angle from the horizon to substantially vertical. The substantially acute angle may be approximately 10 degrees in some cases. In some cases the lower-gain antenna may include four elements. Likewise, in some embodiments, the higher-gain antenna may include four elements as well.
