    • A two-piece battery terminal shield generally comprises a base (24) having a first hinge member (42) hingedly interlocked with a second hinge member (52) which is integral with a cover (22). The base further includes a first connector, such as a latch window (62), for removable connection to a second connector (64), on the cover. The second connector generally comprises a peninsular leg portion (66) formed by two slits (68) in a peripheral wall (32) of the cover and a latch (70) at a lower end of the leg portion (66). A release beam (72) formed integrally with the leg portion extends outwardly and laterally from the leg portion. Portions of the release beam are spaced away from portions of the peripheral wall adjacent the leg portion, such that upon inward deformation of the leg portion, the release beam abuts the peripheral wall, thereby impeding excessive inward deformation of the leg portion. Upon further inward deformation of the leg portion and peripheral wall, the leg portion and peripheral wall abut stops formed in the base, thereby preventing damage to the leg portion and latch.

    • A storage battery assembly includes a plurality of electrochemical cells (12) bundled in side-by-side fashion together in a row and electrically connected in series with each other by means of generally elongated electroconductive connecting pieces each connecting one of pole terminals of one electrochemical cell with the other of the pole terminals of the next adjoining electrochemical cell. Each electrochemical cell includes a generally rectangular box-like electrolyte vessel (1) having an opening, an electrode structure accommodated within the electrolyte vessel and including positive electrode plates and negative electrode plates, a quantity of electrolyte accommodated within the electrolyte vessel, a top lid enclosing the opening of the electrolyte vessel, and pole terminals protruding outwardly from the respective top lid. An insulating cover (16) made of synthetic resin and having a plurality of vent perforations (15) defined therein is provided on the storage battery assembly so as to cover respective tops of the electrochemical cells with the vent perforations positioned substantially above the connecting pieces.
