    • The invention is a cathode-ray tube (CRT) and method of manufacturing the CRT having a contrast enhancing coating on the exterior surface of the viewing faceplate. The contrast enhancing coating reduces the transmission of faceplate of the CRT by about 50%. The coating also yields gloss values in the range of 70 to 90. The manufacture comprises the steps of preparing an intermediate formulation containing a hydrolyzed organic silicate, diluting the intermediate formulation with an organic solvent and adding a contrast enhancing material to provide a final formulation, spraying the final formulation onto the faceplate to form the coating, heating the faceplate to cure the coating, and rinsing the coating, thereby forming a stable contrast enhancing coating on the faceplate.

    • An anti-horizontal-impulse cathode-ray-tube driving system comprises an added coil (14) disposed at a location corresponding to the primary coil (11) of the horizontal output transformer (1) thereof, the added coil having one end connected to the output terminal of an anode high voltage generator and an opposite end connected to the anode (22) of the cathode-ray-tube (2) to be driven, and being controlled to produce an induced voltage (V k ) of reversed phase in countering the capacitance (C t ) formed between the anode (22) and the earthed graphite (23) of the cathode-ray-tube (2). Under the process of capacitive coupling, the horizontal impulse voltage (V ct ) which is produced at the anode high voltage (V ce ), is prevented from forming an alternating electrical field around the cathode-ray-tube (2).
