摘要： Methods and structures are provided which support spacer walls (100) in a position which facilitates installation of the spacer walls (100) between a faceplate and backplate of a flat display. In one embodiment, spacer feet (111, 112) are formed at the opposing ends of the spacer wall. Tacking electrodes can be provided on the faceplate to assert an electrostatic force on the spacer feet (111, 112), thereby holding the spacer feet in place during installation of the spacer wall. The spacer wall can be mechanically and/or thermally expanded prior to attaching both ends of the spacer wall to the faceplate. The spacer wall is then allowed to contract, thereby introducing tension into the spacer wall which tends to straighten any inherent wavines in the spacer wall. Alternatively, spacer clips can be clamped onto opposing ends of a spacer wall to support the spacer wall during installation. The spacer clips can provide electrical connections to face electrodes located on the spacer wall.

摘要： A spacer for a flat panel display having a coefficient of thermal expansion equal or close to that of a glass and having a strength and a predetermined conductivity is provided. The spacer for a flat panel display includes a sintered body containing MgAl 2 O 4 preferably as a main phase. The sintered body preferably further contains MgO, and if it contains MgAl 2 O 4 and MgO, a peak strength on a MgO (200) surface is preferably 0.5 to 50 when a peak strength on a MgAl 2 O 4 (311) surface is 100 as measured by X-ray diffraction. The spacer is placed between a back plate having a cathode structure and a face plate placed with a predetermined spacing between itself and the back plate and having fluorescent pixel areas, and plays a role of maintaining the spacing.

摘要： Disclosed are a supporting structure which is superior in fracture resistance and which has in its surface a plurality of grooves (1) for charging prevention manufactured with a simple method. A glass base material having a plurality of grooves in its surface is subjected to heat drawing in a direction parallel to the grooves, and the resultant glass substrate is irradiated with laser beam. With the irradiated region being molten, one side portion of the glass substrate with respect to the irradiated region as the center thereof is pulled, with the result that the grooves do not reach an end portion (t) in the section of the other, stationary side portion of the glass substrate, thereby forming a satisfactory rounded configuration.
