    • Provided is a push switch that can be made thin without requiring that a notch be made into a mounting board. The push switch comprises a substrate having an L-shaped cross section, wherein said substrate has a front surface located perpendicular to a mounting surface of a mounting substrate at a side edge of the mounting substrate which does not have a cutout thereof, a back surface for mounting on the mounting substrate, and a side face. Further provided are an accommodating recess, a center contact, a pair of peripheral contacts, a movable contact spring, a protrusion, and a connection pad. A part of said back surface is located at the side edge of the mounting substrate, a portion of the mounting substrate is located just to the right of said protrusion, and a corner portion which is provided at the inside of said L-shaped cross section of said substrate is located at the side edge of the mounting substrate. The substrate is located so that a lower end of said substrate at said front surface side is flush with a lower end of the mounting substrate.

    • A switch comprising a generally tubular housing (10) of a rigid plastics material. A plurality of discrete tabs (12) are circumferentially disposed, in side-by-side relation, around an end of the housing (10). The housing (10) defines a recess (16) for receiving an elastomeric dome member (24) having an annular rib (26) at its base, and the recess (16) has an annular groove (20) with a relatively sharp edge (22) for receiving the annular rib (26) of the dome member (24). When the dome member (24) is correctly inserted within the recess (16), a downward force is provided on the tabs (12), causing them to 'fold' down over the base of the dome member (24), such that they are substantially at right-angles to the longitudinal sidewall of the housing (10), and substantially flush with the edge portion (29) thereof. Optionally, heat may also be applied to the tabs (12), causing them to at least partially soften and melt together, to form a single, substantially integral, flange completely covering the annular rib (26) at the base of the dome member (24), so as to create a fluid-tight seal between the housing (10) and the dome member (24). The end of the housing (10) apposite to that having the tabs (12) is provided with an aperture (30) with which the stem (32) of a keycap 34 is slidably engaged. The recess (16) for receiving the dome member (24) is shaped and configured so as to provide sufficient clearance such that the dome member (24) does not contact the inner wall of the housing (10) when it is deformed in use.

    • An intermediate displacement board (120) composed of a metal plate is arranged on a printed circuit board (110) having electrode patterns (E1-E7) and then a strain generative body (130) composed of silicon rubber is arranged on top thereof. Then, the arrangement is fixed to the printed circuit board (110) with attachments (140). Depressing a displacement portion (133) causes a connecting portion (132) to be deflected and an electrode (F0) to be brought into contact with the electrodes (E1, E2) to make them conductive, thereby allowing the pushbutton switch to be turned ON. Depressing further the displacement portion (133) causes an elastic deformation portion (134) to be elastically deformed and crushed and the intermediate displacement board (120) to be pushed downward. The capacitance of capacitors (C3-C7), which are constituted by the electrodes (E3-E7) and the intermediate displacement board (120), are varied according to the depression of the intermediate displacement board (120). By detecting the variation in capacitance, it becomes possible to detect three-dimensional components of an applied force.
