    • A lens holder (75) is provided with objective lenses (34, 35) of different types. Rotating the lens holder (75) causes one of the objective lenses (34, 35) to be placed in the optical path of the laser beam. Near one objective lens (35), there is provided a reflecting element (92) that reflects part of the laser beam directed to the objective lens (35). When the objective lens (35) is put in the optical path, the beam from the reflecting element (92) is sensed by a sensor. From the sensing result, it is judged that a specific type of objective lens (35) is in the optical path. Accordingly, there is provided an objective lens driving apparatus that includes at least two objective lenses with different numerical apertures according to optical information recording mediums complying with different standards, is capable of switching between the objective lenses according to the optical information recording medium to be used, and further has a simple structure capable of identifying the type of the objective lens selected by switching.

    • When recording and/or reproducing data on a disk formatted in accordance with a constant linear velocity (CLV) system while the disk is rotated and a head is movable in a radial direction relative to the disk for scanning radially successive circular tracks thereon, and a recording and/or reproducing circuit is operable in response to a data transfer clock for causing the head to record and/or reproduce data in the tracks scanned thereby : the disk is virtually divided into a plurality of virtual zones (Fig. 1A) arranged successively in the radial direction and each comprised of a respective plurality of the tracks ; the frequency of the data transfer clock (Fig. 1B) is determined in dependence on the one of the virtual zones in which the tracks being scanned are situated at least during the initiation of a recording or reproducing operation, with the frequency determined at the initiation of a recording or reproducing operation being increased step wise for each of the successive zones considered in the radially outward direction and being maintained substantially constant at least so long as the tracks being scanned are in the one of the zones at which the recording or reproducing operation was initiated ; and the angular velocity (Fig. 1C) at which the disk is rotated during the recording or reproducing of data in the tracks within any one of the virtual zones is decreased as successive tracks, considered in the radially outward direction, are scanned during the recording or reproducing operation in which the frequency of the data transfer clock is maintained substantially constant.
