摘要： Systems and methods for independent control of for-hire vehicles are described whereby a computer system storing operation parameters pertaining to the regulatory restrictions placed on a for-hire vehicle compares the operation parameters to a current operating environment of the for-hire vehicle. In some embodiments, the computer system acts as the meter (such as a taximeter) of the for-hire vehicle. The operating parameters may include expiration or exclusion parameters that define the scope of operation of the for-hire vehicle stemming from the for-hire vehicle's medallion or certificate of public convenience and necessity. The expiration or exclusion parameters may also correspond to a driver's permit or any general regulation enacted by the regulatory agency. The computer system may be in communication with one or more sensors in order to determine the current operating environment of the for-hire vehicle. If the current operating environment does not comply with the expiration or exclusion parameters, the computer system shuts down, or enters a standby mode. Once shut down or in standby mode, the computer system may not accept additional passenger fares until the current operating environment complies with the expiration and exclusion parameters.

摘要： Systems and methods for pairing for-hire vehicles with their associated medallion are disclosed. Some for-hire vehicles, such as taxis operate with a for-hire vehicle meter (taximeter). In some embodiments, the meter contains an identifier of a medallion that is associated with the meter. The meter may then determine if it is connected or properly associated with the medallion. If the meter is connected or properly associated with the medallion, it will then access the identification information of the medallion and determine if identification information matches its contained medallion identifier. If the identification information does not match, the meter may shut down and thereafter be non-engageable. The relationship between the medallion and the meter is advantageously used to enforce restrictions on the operation of the for-hire vehicle including, for example, time and location of pick-up restrictions. In other embodiments, meters and medallions communicate their identification and locations to a central server. The central server then compares the locations to determine the distance between the meter and the medallion. If the distance does not satisfy a predetermined range (indicating the meter and the medallion are close together), the central server may generate an alert or it may command the meter to shut down. The central sever may also advantageously be used to enforce restrictions on the operation of the for-hire vehicle. Meters and/or medallions not attached to their assigned medallion and/or meter may also be tracked via the central server.

摘要： The system permits verification of the functioning of a taximeter located in a taxi. The verification consists of checking that the tariffs calculated by the taximeter located in the taxi fall within the limits established by legislation, a problem that arises whenever the taximeter needs to be repaired and when a change takes place in the price of the tariffs (annually, following the appropriate official publication).
The system consists of a GPS receiver (1), an antenna (2), a microprocessor (3), an LCD panel (4), a keypad (5), a communications port (6) and a battery (7).
The GPS receiver (1) is in turn connected to: the antenna (2), the microprocessor (3), the LCD panel (4), the keypad (5) and the communications port (6).
The verification of the functioning of the taximeter is carried out by the system forming the object of this patent while the taxi is making a trip, processing the data line for position, speed and time which is picked up by the GPS receiver, with the taximeter of the taxi independently calculating the tariffs.
Control of the standard taximeter is by means of the keypad (5) and the display of the data is carried out in the LCD panel (4). By means of the communications port (6) the data in the system is transmitted to a personal computer. The battery (7) feeds the remaining devices of the system.

There are three major parts of the system - the proximity reader (200) mounted in the taxi (201), the host system (202) at a central location (203) and the data replication facility. The vehicular system (10) is essentially a computer having inputs and outputs. The inputs to the system (10) include, for example, passenger identification information (11) which is supplied by a sensor (12) which communicates with a wireless smart card (13), which is carried by a passenger (14). In its most rudimentary form, the smart card (13) transmits a unique identification number. In more sophisticated embodiments, the smart card (13) may also transmit biometric information such as fingerprint information or facial image information. The passenger (14) may also be requested to input a PIN number to a keypad (15) mounted on the exterior of the vehicle (16).
