    • The optical pulse autocorrelator enables measurement of the pulse duration of very short pulses of light. The autocorrelator is a single shot autocorrelator having a beam splitter (20) which forms two beams (15,16) from an input pulse (14). The two beams (15,16) are incident on a beam angle modifier (21) which directs the two beams to intersect at a predetermined angle within a frequency doubling crystal (12). The resultant image of the beam intersection within the crystal provides measurable information on the pulse duration. The optical pulse autocorrelator has the advantage of being uni-axial and so more compact and easier to align.
