摘要： A paper conditioner (100) to control image dependent curl in a copier/printer includes a reservoir for storing a quantity of liquid, a pair of rolls (102,104;103,105) in contact with one another so as to define a nip (106;107), and a metering roll (108;109) associated with the reservoir and one of the pair of rolls. The metering roll forms a nip with one of the pair of rolls to direct a controlled flow of liquid from the reservoir to the nip area. Seals (140) located at opposed ends of the metering roll (109) and the roll (103) with which it forms a nip prevent the flow of excess liquid from the ends of the metering roll.

摘要： An electrophotographic printer has neutralizing units (60,70,80) and a fixing unit (36,19) that are disposed in the transport path of a print medium (P). The neutralizing units (60,70,80) neutralize a toner image surface of the print medium (P) entering the fixing unit (36,19) and a non-printed surface of the print medium (P) exiting the fixing unit (36,19). The fixing unit (36,19) includes two rollers. A fixing roller (40,19a) incorporates a heat source that generates heat for fusing a toner image on the print medium. A pressure roller (50,19b) is in pressure engagement with the fixing roller (40,19a) . At least one of the fixing roller (40,19a) and pressure roller (50,19b) includes a resilient member (43,52) that covers a metal shaft (42,51) and an insulation layer (44,53) that covers the resilient member (43,52). The resilient member (43,52) may contain electrically conductive whiskers that extend radially in three dimensions. The whiskers (45,54) are dispersed such that a surface of the insulation layer (44,53) and a surface of the shaft (42,51) are electrically continuous.

摘要： A paper conditioner (100) re-moisturizes paper immediately following fusing to restore paper temperature and moisture equilibrium and reduce curl. The paper conditioner (100) has plumbing that includes a pump, supply lines, overflow lines, metering blade lines and return lines. A soaker hose is used to uniformly distribute conditioner agent to a wick (125). The soaker hose has pin-holes that are evenly spaced adjacent the wick. The wick (125) is a high density material, such as, cotton that contacts and supplies the conditioner agent to metering rolls (108,109). These rolls (108,109) contact donor rolls (106,107), which contact moisturizing rolls (102,103) which contact the paper. Metering blades (115,116) are used to remove excess conditioning agent from the moisturizing rolls.
