    • An electrochromic device comprising a first and a second carrier path, each comprising an electrode which is electronically connected to an electrochromic element, which is connected by an electrolyte to a counter element, which is connected to an electrode. The second carrier path further comprises resistance means arranged between its electrodes. Said first carrier path is connected to said second carrier path between said electrochromic element and said resistance means. By applying a first and a second potential difference across said first and second charge carrier path, respectively, the electrochromic element of the first carrier path is electrochemically reacted at a higher rate compared to the electrochromic element of the second carrier path. Further, the electrochemical reaction raises the potential at the interface such that the electrochemical reaction of the electrochromic element of the second carrier path is substantially increased, whereby a self controlled time separated switching is achieved.
