    • Provided are: a frequency analysis unit configured to calculate a frequency spectrum of an electrical echo signal received from an ultrasound probe by analyzing a frequency of the echo signal; a band setting unit configured to set, in accordance with a transmission drive wave, a feature calculation-purpose frequency band used in calculating a feature of the frequency spectrum; an intensity correction unit configured to calculate a corrected frequency spectrum by correcting, using a correction amount defined in accordance with the transmission drive wave, intensity of the frequency spectrum in the feature calculation-purpose frequency band set by the band setting unit; and an approximation unit configured to approximate, in the feature calculation-purpose frequency band, the corrected frequency spectrum calculated by the intensity correction unit, thereby to extract a feature of the corrected frequency spectrum. Consequently, provided are an ultrasound observation apparatus capable of keeping a feature of a frequency spectrum corresponding to received ultrasound constant regardless of characteristics of transmitted ultrasound, a method for operating the ultrasound observation apparatus, and a program for operating the ultrasound observation apparatus.

    • An ultrasound diagnosis apparatus according to the present invention includes a frequency analysis unit, a change rate calculation unit, and an attenuation rate estimation unit. The frequency analysis unit calculates a frequency spectrum of an ultrasound signal for each of reception depths by analyzing a frequency of the ultrasound signal. The change rate calculation unit calculates a second-order change rate of a frequency spectrum calculated by the frequency analysis unit or of a function defined by using the frequency spectrum by calculating a distance change rate and a frequency change rate on the frequency spectrum or on the function, in a predetermined order. The attenuation rate estimation unit estimates an attenuation rate per unit distance and per unit frequency, of the ultrasound signal in a predetermine region within a scanning region of the ultrasound transducer using the second-order change rate calculated by the change rate calculation unit.
