    • A duplex weapon system that is capable of firing a high-mass/low-velocity ("HMLV") projectile followed by a conventional projectile such as a bullet. A barrel adapter is aligned with the bore of the barrel of a conventional firearm. The barrel adapter includes an adapter bore running completely through its length, with the adapter bore terminating in an exit in the forward portion of the barrel adapter. The HMLV projectile is slidably attached to the exterior of the barrel adapter. The HMLV projectile includes a launch tube that covers the exit of the barrel adapter. When a first cartridge is fired by the firearm, expanding propellant gas rushes down the adapter bore and out the exit. The expanding gas forces the launch tube and the attached HMLV projectile away from the barrel adapter. The HMLV projectile then flies toward a target.

    • The present invention relates to an artillery missile (1) intended for firing on a ballistic trajectory, with gliding characteristics which can be put into effect, after it has reached the summit of this trajectory, to increase the maximum range of the missile. In order to obtain these gliding characteristics, the missile is provided with extendable aerodynamic bearing surfaces divided into firstly canard fins (5-8), which are retracted in the front part of the missile body and can be extended after the summit of trajectory, secondly main bearing surfaces (9, 10) made of resilient material, which, likewise during launching, are curved in against and around the central part (3) of the missile body in shallow recesses adapted thereto in the outer casing of the missile and which, after the summit of trajectory and being extended, form the wings (9, 10) of the missile, and thirdly stern fins, which, durign at least launching, are covered i the retracted position by a protective cover (14) in the rear part (4) of the missile.

    • A base bleed unit arranged to increase the range of fire or to reduce the time of flight for shells and projectiles includes a housing (1) surrounding a fuel charge (6) and associated igniter (4), extending from the rear portion of a projectile body (2) and including at least one outlet nozzle (5, 5ʹ, 5ʺ) for combustion gases, which by means of a mass flow, and possibly combustion adjacent to the base plane, reduce existing base drag. According to an embodiment of the invention, the housing (1) comprises a caseshaped member 1 attachable against a projectile body (2), having at least one igniter (4) arranged adjacent to an internal plane of a restricting wall surface at the housing (1), located in an opposed relationship to the portion of the housing (1) attachable against a projectile body (2). The combustion flame of the igniter (4) is hereby maintained directed towards the fuel charge (6) and away from the outlet nozzle/nozzles (5, 5ʹ, 5ʺ). Advantageously, a number of outlet nozzles (5, 5ʹ, 5ʺ) are used, arranged spaced in an annular relationship to each other, and preferably inclined towards the outer peripheral portion of the restricting wall surface. A number of igniters (4) are advantageously used, located in recesses or blind holes taken up by the inside plane of the restricting wall surface. It is further advantageous to arrange the open portion of each igniter (4) partly covered by a covering means, thus accomplishing a reduced outlet area. According to a second embodiment, the housing (1) may also be formed by attachment of a bottom member to a projectile body (2) having a rearwardly open projectile extension, said bottom member including one or a number of igniters (4).
