    • A control for a continuously variable transmission includes a wheel speed sensor (21F) arranged to sense a rotation speed of a driving wheel, a wheel speed sensor arranged to a rotation speed of a driven wheel, and a transmission controller (12). The transmission controller (12) is configured to judge a traveling road is a rough road (S1) when a wheel speed difference between the driving wheel and the driven wheel is equal to or greater than an entering judgment threshold value, and to increase a clamping force of the continuously variable transmission (1). The transmission controller (12) is configured to sense a vibration of a vehicle speed based on the detection value of the wheel speed sensor (21R), and to decrease the increased clamping force when the wheel speed difference is equal to or smaller than a release judgment threshold value (S3), and when the sensed vibration is equal to or smaller than a predetermined vibration value (S5).

Variation of the input speed, during the disengagement of the brake, is determined as a function of the input gradient, the optimum time for reaching the synchronous speed, during brake disengagement, is determined from the input speed variation as a function of the output gradient, and the time interval until transmission of the disengagement signal is determined as a function of the current input and output speeds and their gradients, by a back-calculation from the time when the synchronous speed is reached, taking a disengagement dead time of the brake, between transmitting the disengagement signal and start of disengagement, into account.
