    • A non-step transmission comprises a housing (1) for storing hydraulic fluid therein, a driving shaft (2) rotatably provided in the housing, a driven shaft (3) rotatably provided in the housing in a coaxial position with the driving shaft, a first pump case (11) rotatably provided about the driving shaft and having a fluid intake port and a fluid discharge port, a second pump case (15) fixed on the housing, the second pump case encasing the driven shaft and having a fluid intake port and a fluid discharge port, an opening and closing mechanism (18) for opening and closing the fluid intake port and the fluid discharge port, and gear pump mechanisms provided within the first and the second pump cases, respectively. The simply constructed non-stage transmission can efficiently transmit a large torque from the driving shaft to the driven shaft.
      In another embodiment the opening and closing mechanism (18) is automatically shifted as a function of the output pressure of the second gear pump.

    • A gearbox 11 comprises a casing 12 containing speed reduction gearing 17, 20. 21, 22 and also at least a portion of a drive shaft 9, the latter being provided with at least one radially extending cylinder 24 having a closed inner end 26 and an open, outer end 25, the or each cylinder 24 at least partially housing a piston 27 which is reciprocable within its cylinder 24, with a variable volume, pressure-generating chamber 28 defined between a radially inner end 29 of the piston 27 and the closed, inner end 26 of its cylinder 24, and the radially outer ends 30 of the piston(s) 27 being in (direct or indirect) contact at least in the pumping mode with an inner profile 31 of a ring 34 surrounding the drive shaft 9 and piston(s) 27, such that upon rotation of the drive shaft 9, variations in radial distance of the inner profile 31 from the axis of rotation 10 of the drive shaft causes reciprocation of the or each piston 27, and a consequent pumping effect, at least one fluid transfer port 37 communicating with the or each pressure-generating chamber 28, and valve means 39 to control fluid admission to, and delivery from, the or each pressure-generating chamber 28.
