The track grooves (7, 9) of both the joint members (2, 3) each have a length corresponding to a maximum operating angle (θmax) required for a propeller shaft, and surface treatment is performed, for example, on a defined surface of each of the track grooves (7) of the outer joint member (2) so as to reduce frictional resistance (sliding resistance) against balls (4).

    • A fixed type constant velocity universal joint having an outer ring (1), an inner ring (2), torque transmission balls (3), and a cage (4), where either a pressing section (10) for causing an elastic pressing force to act in the axial direction or a receiving section (14) for receiving the pressing force from the pressing section is provided at the cage and the other is provided at the inner ring. In the joint, an axial clearance between the inner ring and the cage is set greater than an axial clearance caused by a radial clearance between tracks, and also the axial clearance is set to 2.5 - 6.5 times the radial clearance. Further, axial positions of pockets (4a) of the cage for receiving the torque transmission balls are displaced nearer to the center (O1) side of a track groove (1a) of the outer ring than the curvature center (O) of the cage.
