    • Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to extendable cutting tools for use in a wellbore. In one embodiment, a tool for use in a wellbore includes a tubular body having a bore therethrough, an opening through a wall thereof, and a connector at each longitudinal end thereof; and an arm. The arm is pivotally connected to a first piston and rotationally coupled to the body, is disposed in the opening in a retracted position, and is movable to an extended position where an outer surface of the arm extends outward past an outer surface of the body. The tool further includes the first piston. The first piston is disposed in the body bore, has a bore therethrough, and is operable to move the arm from the retracted position to the extended position in response to fluid pressure in the piston bore exceeding fluid pressure in the opening. The tool further includes a lock operable to retain the first piston in the retracted position; and a second piston operably coupled to the lock.

    • An underreamer for connection with a rotary pipe string includes inner and outer body sections which form a body structure to provide a fluid flow path therethrough for communicating with piston and cylinder means formed between the body sections for receiving drilling fluid to effect telescopic movement between the body sections permitting engagement of cutter arms and support of said cutter arms on the outer body of the underreamer utilizing a slideable, non-pivoting stop block. Cutter arms are pivotally mounted on the inner body section and, upon engagement of the cutter arms to effect underreaming are fully supported on the outer body section thereby minimizing damage from vibration and repeated use on the threaded inner body sections.

    • The invention relates to a threading equipment for cutting a thread in the inner face of a shaft.
      The equipment comprises a displaceable assembly comprising an upper section including at least one cutting means (52,54) and control means to move said at least one cutting means from a retracted position, wherein said at least one cutting means is disposed within said shaft, to an expanded position, wherein said at least one cutting means projects into the wall of the shaft; means for controlling the vertical displacement speed of said displaceable assembly within said shaft; and means for controlling the rotation speed and the sense of rotation of said assembly about its vertical axis within said shaft, whereby said at least one cutting means is adapted to cut at least one thread in the surface of said shaft having a controlled pitch along a controlled length of said shaft, when said at least one cutting means is in its expanded position.

    • A drilling tool is followed by a casing tube (11) down the drilled hole. The mouth of the casing tube (11) centers rotatably a guide member (10) which receives rotation and impact energy via the interior of the casing tube (11). A drill bit (20) consists integrally of an axially protruding pilot portion (23), a sidewise projecting eccentric portion (22) and a rear shaft (21). The shaft (21) extends pivotally and axially movably into an eccentrically disposed bore (24) in the guide member (10). Axially spaced peripheral end grooves (30,32) extend in opposite direction from an axial cam groove (31) on the shaft (21) and are engaged by a follo­wer (28) in the guide member (10) defining positively the axial and angular movability and positions thereof relative to the drill bit (20). In the forward end groove (32) the follower (28) maintains the drill bit (20) axially in dril­ling position adjacent to the guide member (10) with the eccentric portion (22) protruding to drill a hole larger than the casing tube (11). In an intermediate position 90° away from the drilling position, the follower (28) enters the cam groove (31) whereby the guide member (10) becomes axially movable the distance between the end grooves (30,32). In a rear axial position the guide member (10) by a continued 90° turn brings the follower (28) into the rear end groove (30) to axially define the retracted position of the drill bit (20), wherein it can be raised or lowered freely through the casing tube (11).
