    • The invention provides a process for the production of fluorinated sulfonyl fluorides useful as the material of ion -exchange resins or the like and novel chemical substances useful as the intermediate in the process. Namely, a process which comprises oxidizing a compound of the general formula: Y-S-RA-E-RB with an oxidizing agent containing a halogen atom as the essential constituent into a compound of the general formula: XSO2-RA-E-RB, subjecting the obtained compound as such when X is a fluorine atom or after the conversion of X into a fluorine atom when X is a halogen atom other than fluorine to reaction with fluorine in a liquid phase to obtain a compound of the general formula: FSO2-RAF-EF-RBF, and decomposing this compound into a compound of the general formula: FSO2-RAF-COF (wherein RA is a divalent organic group such as alkylene; RB is a monovalent organic group such as perfluoroalkyl; E is -CH2OCO-; Y is a monovalent organic group such as cyano; X is a halogen atom; RAF is a divalent organic group obtained by fluorinating RA or the like; RBF is the same group as RB or the like; and EF is -CF2OCO-).
