摘要： An apparatus (10) is provided for supplying streams of molten glass to be drawn into continuous glass fibers. The apparatus comprises a receptacle (22), a feeding device (30), a heating device (24) and a plurality of bushings (50). The receptacle (22) is adapted to receive glass-forming batch materials (40) to be melted into molten glass material (42) such that a pool (42a) of molten glass material (42) is provided in the receptacle (22) below a layer (40a) of glass-forming batch materials (40). The receptacle (22) includes a plurality of openings (70) through which primary streams (42b) of molten glass material flow. The feeding device feeds the glass-forming batch materials to the receptacle. The heating device is associated with the receptacle and is adapted to generate heat to melt the glass-forming batch materials. The bushings are located adjacent to the receptacle such that each of the bushings receives one of the primary streams of molten glass material. The bushings include a plurality of nozzles (53) for supplying secondary streams of molten glass material to be drawn into continuous glass fibers.

摘要： A method and apparatus for discharging a controlled quantity of molten material, molten raw material and any supplementary material needed to provide a specified raw material formulation is charged intermittently into a tiltable melting furnace from which molten material is continuously disharged. The discharge of the molten material is effected by determining the weight of the tiltable melting furnace, which weight changes as the raw material is charged into and molten material is discharged from the furnace. The rate of change in weight of the molten material with respect to time is computed by a control device from the determined weights of the furnace, and the control device provides a control signal to activate the furnace mechanism when the rate of change in weight of the molten material (with respect to time) differs from a predetermined value.

摘要： A substantially spherically-shaped electric melting furnace includes a carbon-lined crucible. The interior of said crucible is sealed from the atmosphere outside the crucible and a vacuum pump and venturi device control the atmosphere within the crucible by removing oxygen therefrom. A feeder lock allows material to be fed into the crucible without interfering with the atmospheric control of the crucible and a tap hole adjacent the lower portion of the crucible allows molten material to be removed. When used in the manufacture of mineral wool insulation, slag is fed into the crucible to be melted and the molten slag from the tap hole is delivered to a fiberizing device.

The fritted glass is introduced into a melting container that can be inductively heated and is made of a non-metallic, high temperature-resistant and good conductive material, is heated up to a temperature above its softening temperature and is transferred into a second melting container made of a non-conductive refractory material. The disclosed device has a melting container (18) made of graphite and partially surrounded by an induction coil (22).
