    • In this elevator system, an elevator car (2) is arranged such that it can move along at least two guide rails (7), and said elevator car (2) is equipped with a pair of catch devices (10) and an actuator (8) for actuating the catch device (10). The catch device (10) for braking an elevator car (2) comprises at least one brake eccentric (15) that has a cylindrical bearing bore (16), a brake housing (17), and a bearing axle (18) for accommodating said brake eccentric (15). The brake eccentric (15) can be displaced in a direction of displacement at a right angle relative to the bearing axle (18). In addition, the bearing axle (18) has, across a first segment region (18.1), a bearing surface for receiving a bearing or pressing force of the brake eccentric (15), said bearing surface being compatible with the cylindrical bearing bore (16). The bearing axle (18) is set back in another segment region (18.2) so that the brake eccentric (15) can be displaced at a right angle relative to the bearing axle (18).

    • An elevator car speed governor is mounted on the top of the car assembly (2), and measures car speed by contacting a fixed element (6) in the hoistway. The fixed element can be a taut cable extending from the top of the hoistway to the pit, or one of the car guide rails, for example. The governor has a centrifugally operated connection (16,18) with emergency brakes (22) on the car. When overspeed is detected, the connection is actuated to cause the brakes to engage the guide rails and stop the car. The governor can operate at relatively low overspeed rates, and can be used on elevator systems which do not have an overhead machine room, such as hydraulic and linear induction motor elevators.

    • In a safety device 3 of an elevator, there is provided an elevating/lowering body 1; a guide rail 2 erected in an elevator shaft to guide the elevation and lowering of the elevating/lowering body 1; a pressing piece that is provided on the elevating/lowering body 1 and is formed with a pressing surface 7b which faces to the guide rail 2 and the upper side of which tilts to the guide rail 2 side; and a braking wedge piece 8 that is in sliding contact with the pressing surface 7b of the pressing piece and is inserted under pressure between the guide rail and the pressing surface of the pressing piece at the time of emergency stop operation to brake the lowering of the elevating/lowering body 1. The pressing piece 8 includes a movable pressing piece 7a that is formed with the pressing surface 7b and is provided so as to be displaceable to the right and left direction; and a cam 12 that is disposed between the movable pressing piece 7a and a fixed portion 5 on the anti-guide rail side of the movable pressing piece 7a, holds the movable pressing piece 7a so that the braking wedge piece 8 and the guide rail 2 are separate from each other at the normal time, and rotates at the time of emergency stop operation to move the movable pressing piece 7a horizontally to the guide rail 2 side, whereby the braking wedge piece 8 is pressed on the guide rail 2.
