摘要： The invention relates to a barrel made from wood, particularly oak wood, intended to house a liquid, such as wine, including a hollow body closed by two barrel ends, each barrel end comprising a set of substantially rectangular wood laths assembled in parallel along opposing side faces. The adjacent side faces (101, 201) of two assembled laths (100, 200) are in sealed contact and the wood fibres of each of said laths are intertwined and held in a matrix of molten intracellular materials.

摘要： A wooden container (10) is supplied to the user in flat pack kit form. The kit comprises a number of wooden container wall sections (12), one or more laminated wooden rings (11) and a wooden container base (21). On assembly the container wall sections (12) are fixed to the laminated rings (11) so that a container wall is built up, the rings (11) extending round the outer periphery of the wall. The base (21) is fixed either frictionally at the bottom of the container, or supported on dowels extending outwards from the inner surface of the wall sections at the bottom of the container (10). The wall sections (12) are arranged to engage with each other by tongue and groove (13,14) joints provided in their adjacent edges, the joints being suitably dimensioned to allew for expansion and contraction of the wall sections (12).
A method and apparatus for manufacturing individual wall sections is also disclosed.

The inner plate lies between the outer plate and the end of the cask when the cap is in place on the end of the cask. A layered or ridged spacer can separate the plates, and can permit fluid transfer in the space between the plates. The inner plate can be resistant to vapor transfer, and can be pressed against the outer surface of the end of the cask when the cap is in place on the end of the cask, and leaves an annular area of the end of the cask uncovered.
