    • A clamping device is provided in the form of a one-­piece cable tie. The cable tie (20) includes a band section (22) having a free end (24) for positioning about an object to be constrained, such as an electrical cable, and a buckle section (32) through which the free end (24) of the band section (22) is inserted. In a preferred embodiment, the buckle section (32) includes a first portion (34) operatively connected to the band and terminating adjacent a slot (36). A second, raised portion (38) of the buckle section (32) is longitudinally or horizontally offset from the first portion (34). The second portion (38) extends from a point adjacent the afore­mentioned slot (36) to a free end. The width of the slot occupied by the band is greater when the band is loosely wrapped about the object constrained. The greater width of the slot when the band is loosely wrapped facilitates single or multiple wrappings of the object constrained. Any gaps between the band the object constrained are reduced by positioning only the first portion (34) of the buckle section (32) adjacent the object thereby improving clamping. Lips are also provided on the buckle section to accommodate positioning of the buckle section (32) in a grooved area formed in the object being constrained. The cable tie is preferably made by a machining process in which buckle sections (32) are alternately formed on opposing sides of a sheet of metal material to enhance the use of the material and avoid waste.

    • An improvement in a sealless connection (10) between two overlapped segments of strapping (12,14). The sealless connection (10) comprises a plurality of joints (16) arrayed longitudinally, each comprising a pair of shoulders (24,26), which interlock when the segments (12,14) are tensioned. The connection (10) further comprises notches (30) provided respectively in superposed edges on opposite sides of the respective segments (12,14) and operable as an "anti-reverse" locking means. The notches (30) are provided after the shoulders (24,26) are interlocked. The segments (12,14) are formed at the notches (30) to prevent the segments (12,14) from shifting longitudinally to unlock the interlocked shoulder (24,26). The notched edges of the respective segments (12,14) are uninterrupted, except for the notch (30), where the respective segments (12,14) are crimped.

    • A strap (20), which can be a strip of metal, is provided for forming a tight loop about an object and for forming a sealless strap connection between overlapping strap portions. The strap has first and second oppositely facing surfaces (31,32) and two connecting regions (41,42) spaced apart lengthwise on the strap. Each connecting region has at least one joint element (44,46) for engaging a corresponding joint element on the other connecting region to connect the regions together upon displacement of the connecting regions lengthwise in opposite directions tending to increase the loop size. An engaging member (80) projects from the strap first surface at one of the connecting regions. A cavity (86) is defined in the strap at the other of the connecting regions and opens to the strap second surface for receiving the engaging member. The cavity is defined at one end by an abutment surface (92) for being engaged by the engaging member. The cavity is located on the strap relative to the engaging member so that, after the strap connecting regions have been relatively displaced lengthwise in the direction tending to increase the loop size and effect engagement between the joint elements, the engaging member can engage the abutment surface. This prevents relative lengthwise displacement of the connecting regions in the directions tending to decrease the loop size which would effect disengagement of the joint elements.

    • Provided are a cable tie locking structure that allows a distal end of a cable tie to be firmly secured to a proximal end, and a cable tie tool for realizing this cable tie locking structure. In the locking structure (1) of the cable tie (2), the cable tie includes a strap portion (4) and a head portion (5). A first locking hole (7) at a proximal end (6) of the strap portion (4), and a second locking hole (12) of the head portion, are formed in a shape wherein their widths in a short-side direction of the strap portion are longer than those in a longitudinal direction of the strap portion, and include a first inner wall surface (18) and a second inner wall surface (19), respectively, that extend in a direction substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the strap portion, on the side nearer to the proximal end of the cable tie. The distal end (8) of the strap portion has a protruded portion (21) that protrudes through the first locking hole and into the second locking hole. The protruded portion has an engagement surface (22) that faces the first inner wall surface and the second inner wall surface and that extends along these inner wall surfaces, so that the protruded portion can engage with the first inner wall surface and the second inner wall surface at this engagement surface.
