摘要： An upper-front of a seatback (16) is cut, providing a hole (20) at a position the occupant's shoulder may lie, and an engaging means (30) able to engage with a shoulder webbing (18c1) is fitted in the hole (20). The engaging means (30) holds the shoulder webbing (18c1), which is wrapped around the occupant. The engaging means (30) is, for example, a (second) buckle (18e2) fitted in the hole (20). A second tongue (intermediate tongue) (18d2) is mounted on a middle part of the shoulder webbing (18c1). The shoulder webbing (18c1) is wrapped slantwise around the occupant's shoulder when the second tongue (18d2) is engaged with the second buckle (18e2).

The seat belt includes a main strap (18) with upper and lower anchorage points to a first side of the seat and a tongue (20) on the main strap for receipt in a socket (22) providing a lower anchorage point to a second side of the seat, such that in use the seat belt provides a lap strap (18 a ) and a shoulder strap (18 b ). The seat belt further includes an additional strap (24) having upper and lower anchorage points on the first side of the seat, and an adjuster (30) through which the main strap and additional strap pass, which can be slid up and down the straps to alter the effective length of the shoulder strap. The upper anchorage points for the main strap and additional strap are within the squab, and the main and additional straps emerge from the squab through an upper escutcheon (26). The upper escutcheon provides an opening of sufficient size to receive the adjuster within it when slid fully up the straps.
