摘要： A flat-proof rim for a pneumatic tyre of a wheel is disclosed. The flat-proof rim includes a circular rim body (10) having an outer periphery. A plurality of spaced linkages are arranged along and movably connected to the outer periphery of the rim body (10), and each have a hoof (40) adapted to be movable between a radially inner position and a radially outer position relative to the rim body (10). In addition, there is provided an apparatus for driving the linkages so that the hoofs (40) are moved from the radially inner positions to the radially outer positions when the pneumatic tyre is deflated while the wheel is rotated at a high speed.

摘要： A wheel unit (10) comprises a wheel rim (12), a pneumatic tyre (14) receivable on the wheel rim (12) and a runflat assembly (16) adapted to be seated on the wheel rim (12) to close off a well (22) provided in the wheel rim (12). The runflat assembly (16) includes an annular support body (24) which is radially expandable to an expanded condition and contraction means (28,30) adapted to be operated via an opening (78) formed in the wheel rim (12). The contraction means (28, 30), when activated, is operable on the support body (24) to cause the support body (24) to be contracted to a radially contracted condition. The contraction mean is accessible through the opening (78) to cause the support body (24) to be radially contracted to seat the runflat assembly (16) on the wheel rim (12) to close off the well (22). The support body (24), when in its contracted condition, has a diameter greater than that of the wheel rim (12).

摘要： A runflat device, and a method of fitting a runflat device. The runflat device can include a chain of segments which is flexible enough to be manipulated for fitting, while also being laterally stable to ensure correct positioning and to avoid misalignment when tightening onto a wheel. The fitting method initially expands the runflat device within the cavity of the tyre, retaining the runflat device securely in place against the inside of the tyre's tread area. This advantageously leaves the beads of the tyre unobstructed for fitting to a wheel.
