    • A method of controlling a printer includes measuring a first voltage value of a power supply of the printer before energizing heat generating elements of a print head of the printer. The method also includes calculating, by a controller of the printer, the number of heat generating elements that are simultaneously energizable based on the measured first voltage value of the power supply, an end voltage value of the power supply, an internal resistance value of the power supply, a resistance value of each of the heat generating elements, and a current value of an electric current flowing through a motor of the printer for conveying recording paper. The method further includes performing printing on the recording paper by the print head using the heat generating elements of the calculated number.

    • An apparatus for determining the resistance of a printing element of a print head, the apparatus comprising: a print head comprising a plurality of individually controllable printing elements connected in parallel, and a capacitor connected in parallel with the printing elements; a test voltage supply arranged to supply a test voltage to the print head; a current monitor arranged to measure the current supplied to one of the printing elements when the said one of the printing elements is connected to the test voltage supply; and a controller arranged to determine the resistance of the said one of the printing elements based upon the measured current.

    • Provided is a thermal print head having a memory for storing resistance values of heaters to compensate for an energy drift of the thermal print head. The thermal print head includes a plurality of heaters for applying heat to a medium. A heater driving unit drives the heaters according to received data. A memory stores resistance values of the heaters. Accordingly, the thermal print head having the memory which stores resistance values of heaters compensates for an energy drift of the thermal print head by using the resistance values of the heaters stored in the memory without individually measuring the resistance values, and therefore can achieve uniform print quality.

    • Provided are a method and apparatus for compensating for an energy difference in a thermal print head that prints an image by heating a medium. The method includes measuring a direct current voltage of an adapter that applies a voltage to a heating unit when power is supplied to an image forming apparatus, and adjusting heating time of the heating unit using the measured direct current voltage. Accordingly, it is possible to obtain an even distribution of the optical density of an image without an additional voltage adjustment unit or manually compensating for the energy difference.
