    • An air-assisted drop-on-demand ink jet head l0 has a single compartment ink chamber l4 and is designed for operation over a wide range of ink drop repetition rates, including extremely high repetition rates, such as twenty kilohertz. The components included in the ink jet head have natural resonance frequencies which are greater than the desired maximum drop generation frequency of the ink jet head. In addition, the natural frequency of each of the components of the ink jet head are sufficiently different from one another to prevent intercoupling. Ink is supplied to the ink chamber l4 via a supply inlet passageway 38 which has a cross-sectional area which is sized large enough to allow the supply of ink to the ink chamber. Yet, this area is small enough so that the natural frequencies of ink in the ink inlet do not significantly alter drop generating pressure pulses in the ink chamber l4.

    • An inkjet head includes a pressure chamber and a piezoelectric device. A cross-sectional shape of the pressure chamber in a direction substantially perpendicular to the up-down direction includes a circular-arc-shaped side wall portion formed on the ink supply side, and linear side wall portions forming such a shape that the distance between the linear side wall portions gradually decreases toward the side opposite to the supply side. The piezoelectric device includes a displacement portion and an electrode connection portion. A cross-sectional shape of the displacement portion in the direction substantially perpendicular to the up-down direction includes a circular-arc-shaped portion formed inside the circular-arc-shaped side wall portion and having a smaller cross section in the direction substantially perpendicular to the up-down direction than a corresponding cross section of the shape formed by the circular-arc-shaped side portion, and a linear portion formed inside the linear side wall portions and having a smaller cross section in the direction substantially perpendicular to the up-down direction than a corresponding cross section of the shape formed by the linear side portions. The electrode connection portion is connected to the linear portion on the side opposite to the circular-arc-shaped portion in such a position as to overlap with a side wall portion of the pressure chamber in the up-down direction.

    • A fluid drop dispensing device (10), particularly suited for ink jet printer heads, in which a circular electroactuator (22) is supported in concentric relationship with inner (14) and outer (12) ring members defining an annular chamber (16) which is reduced in volume upon excitation of the electroactuator (22). The chamber is defined as a peripheral groove in one or the other of the inner and outer rings and is rendered fluid tight exclusively by peripheral ring surface contact maintained by hoop stress in the two rings as a result of press fitting the inner ring into the outer ring. Both rings may be of plastic material selected for appropriate characteristics or in the alternative, the outer ring may be of plastic while the inner ring is metallic and fabricated of stainless steel or nickel, for example.

    • According to an example, a base, a diaphragm, and a driving element are provided. The driving element includes a first electrode disposed on a second surface of the diaphragm, a second electrode opposing the first electrode, and a piezoelectric body interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. In addition, an inter-wiring insulating film that covers the second surface of the diaphragm and the driving element, and an extracting electrode which is on the inter-wiring insulating film, are further provided. The inter-wiring insulating film includes a contact hole that exposes a part of the second electrode and through which the second electrode and the extracting electrode contact each other.
