摘要： A method of protecting wood through enhanced penetration of wood preservatives includes providing a solution including (a) at least one amine oxide, (b) at least one organic wood preservative and (c) a non-borate buffering based agent. The solution has a pH of 5 to 12.4 and preferably about 7 to 10. The solution is applied to the surface of the wood after which, with or without intervening storage, the materials are activated to effect enhanced penetration of the organic wood preservative into the wood. One may effect application at a solution temperature of about 30° C. to 75° C. and preferably about 50° C. to 60° C. to effect activation at a higher temperature and high relative humidity. In a preferred practice, the wood may be heated before and/or after application of the solution. The solution is also disclosed as a product.

摘要： Applicants have discovered that amine oxides enhance the uniform distribution and penetration of wood preservatives into wood substrates, minimize leaching of the wood preservatives, and improve the weatherability of the wood substrate. The present invention provides a method for enhancing the uniform distribution and penetration of at least one wood preservative into a wood substrate by applying a preservative composition to the wood substrate. The preservative composition comprises a wood distribution and penetration enhancing agent, which includes an amine oxide, and the wood preservatives. Another embodiment of the present invention is a method for enhancing the uniform distribution and penetration of one ore more wood preservatives by applying the wood preservatives to the wood substrate and then applying the aforementioned wood distribution and penetration enhancing agent to the wood substrate. Alternatively, the wood distribution and penetration enhancing agent may be applied prior to application of the wood preservatives or both may be applied concurrently. Yet another embodiment is a preservative composition comprising a wood distribution and penetration enhancing agent and at least one wood preservative. Preferably, the composition comprises a uniform distribution and penetration enhancing effective amount of the wood distribution and penetration enhancing agent and a wood preserving effective amount of the wood preservative.

摘要： An apparatus and method for forming a fire retardant-treated fiber product is provided, A first nip is defined by a pair of juxtaposed processing members, and is configured to receive a fiber product therethrough. At least one of the processing members comprises an incisor member extending from a processing surface thereof, and interacting with and altering a surface of the fiber product directed through the first nip. A second nip is defined by a pair of juxtaposed compression members, and is configured to receive the fiber product therethrough. Compression surfaces of the compression members cooperate to compress the surface of the fiber product within an elastic range associated therewith. At least one of the first and second nip is arranged to receive a fire retarding solution such that the fiber product is interacted therewith at least upon entering the at least one of the first and second nip.
