摘要： A system and a method of fabricating a three-dimensional object consolidates material increments in accordance with a description of the object using a process that produces an atomically clean faying surface between the increments without melting the material in bulk. The CAD system (60) interfaces with a numerical controller (70), which controls an actuation system. The actuation system brings the support feed unit (62), the support ultrasonic welding unit (66), the object feed unit (64) and the object ultrasonic welding unit (68) into proper position in the work area (75), so that the ultrasonic consolidation of the layers takes place according to the CAD description of the object. In alternative embodiments, electrical resistance, and frictional methodologies are used for object consolidation. The invention further facilitates the construction and repair of dense objects, including fiber-reinforced composites and aerospace structures.

摘要： Spark-depositing apparatus for coating a workpiece with a metallic layer has an electrode store (27) for storing a plurality of electrode rods (1a) and a chuck (29) supported by a support member (2a) defining an electrode guide passage (30) for receiving each unconsumed electrode rod from the store (27). The chuck (2a) has a clamp assembly (31, 31a, 32 and 33) and is movable between an open position in which an electrode rod (1a) can slide through the chuck (2a) and a closed position in which the electrode rod (1a) is clamped in the chuck (29). The apparatus includes a first drive for relatively displacing the support member (2a) and the workpiece (5) to cause a localized spark-deposit of the substance of the electrode rod (1a) onto selected regions of the workpiece (5) and a second drive for relatively displacing the support member (2a) and the workpiece (5) towards and away from each other so as to maintain the spacing between the electrode rod (1a) and the workpiece (5) substantially constant. A command means generates a command signal to halt the first and second drives when electrode consumption reaches a predetermined value. A control associated with the clamp assembly responds to the command signal to open and so allow the remnants of the electrode rod to be released, and thereafter to close, to clamp the following unconsumed electrode rod (1a) in position.

Jede Werkstoffbahn (3) wird nach dem Abscheiden mittels eines Messsystems gemessen und ihre Abweichung von der Soll-Form mit den verwendeten Prozessparametern in der Datenbank eingetragen. Dieses Verfahren ermöglicht die lagenweise Herstellung von Formkörpern (1) direkt aus den CAD-Daten unter Verzicht auf eine vorherige Zerlegung des Modells in einzelne Lagen ("Slicen").

The system may comprise a source of at least one feedstock, a support for supporting at least a portion of the 3D object, a feeder for directing at least one feedstock from the source towards the support, and a power supply for supplying electrical current. The system may comprise a controller operatively coupled to the power supply. The controller may receive a computational representation of the 3D object. The controller may direct the at least one feedstock through a feeder towards the support and may direct electrical current through the at least one feedstock and into the support. The controller may subject such feedstock to Joule heating such that at least a portion of such feedstock may deposit adjacent to the support, thereby printing the 3D object in accordance with the computational representation.
