摘要： An improved vortex inhibitor for separating slag from molten metal during the discharge of molten metal through a nozzle includes a uniform castable refractory body with a generally tapering shape, a shaft within the body and an elongated sacrificial member. The shaft receives the sacrificial member or a coupling for the sacrificial member. The refractory body and the sacrificial member combination in molten metal has a specific gravity less than the specific gravity of molten metal and is positioned narrow end downward when supported in molten metal. The sacrificial member aligns the vortex inhibitor with the area in which the vortex forms and minimizes interference with the flow through the discharge nozzle.

摘要： A reaction crucible (1) intended for carrying out aluminothermic welding operations is provided with a bottom (20) having an outflow opening (4) and contains a fine-grain aluminothermic mixture. In order to retain the slag (7) formed as a reaction product of the aluminothermic reaction in the reaction crucible (1), there is provided a shutoff element (10), the density of which is greater than that of the slag (7) and less than that of the molten steel (6), wherein the shutoff element (10) is incorporated into said mixture. The shutoff element (10) consists of a shell (11) which surrounds a filling (12) that consists of a metallic solid body, such that the latter does not prevent the steel (6) from flowing out and only comes into operation once the steel (6) has passed out of the reaction crucible and the outflow opening (4) has been closed by the shutoff element (10).

The body (24) preferably includes swirl obstructing surfaces.

In another embodiment, the release member (366) is mounted on a base (352) which is in turn removably mounted in the bore (42) in the cover (28). The hanger (48) of a slag control shape (32) extends through an aperture in the base (352) and is engaged by the release member (366).
