    • A container (21) is held between a conveyor (11) and guide means (25, 26) provided around the conveyor (11). The guide means (25, 26) come in frictional contact with the container (21) to rotate it around its own axis as the conveyor runs in its circumferential path. The conveyor (11) is partially water-immersed within a water tank (10) and the container (21) whilst being rotated within the water tank (10) has ultrasonic waves applied to its side wall from ultrasonic vibrators (28). The conveyor may be provided on its outer peripheral surface with fin-like, vertically extending projections (20) circumferentially spaced from one another at regular intervals. Also upper rails (22), sloped rails (23) and lower rails (24) may be provided to support the bottom of the containers (21). A nozzle (20) may be provided above the conveyor (11) to fill the container (21) with flushing liquid such as water and a heater (34) or cooler (43) may be provided to enhance the flushing effect.

    • When a bottle (8) to be conveyed horizontally by a holder (7) is moved to a position above a cleaning tank (9) for storing a first cleaning water (A), the bottle (8) is stopped for a certain period of time. Under this stopped state, a second cleaning water (B) is poured into the bottle (8) as well as the cleaning tank (9) is raised and lowered. While a bottom portion of the bottle (8) is immersed into the first cleaning water (A), an inner surface of the bottle (8) is cleaned by ultrasonic radiated from an ultrasonic transducer (15). Foreign materials peeled off from the inner surface of the bottle (8) are discharged to the outside thereof by the poured second cleaning water (B).
