摘要： The description relates to a process for manipulating microscopically small dielectric particles in which the particles are exposed to an electric field. In prior art processes the particles are exposed to non-uniform electric fields are polarised thereby. The polarised particles are moved towards higher field intensity. These processes do not permit the reversal of the direction of movement of the particles. The particles are enriched at the electrode and cannot therefore be held in free space. In the process of the invention the particles are exposed to one or more high-frequency fields moving in predeterminable directions whereby a force is exerted on the particles which puts them into a movement strongly asynchronous to the field. With the aid of a device for implementing the process of the invention it is possible very flexibly to manipulate particles. The particles can be moved by means of linearly or circularly arranged electrodes in any direction and through branched microstructures, they can be separated according to their dielectric properties and held contactlessly. The applications lie in the field of biotechnology and molecular separation, focussing and microtransport technology.

摘要： A method and device for merging and mixing at least two separate and distinct fluid drops on a substrate, includes a drop merging area on the surface, where a first magnetic material (32) is placed at a first location. A first drop of fluid (20) is then placed at the first location on the surface, resulting in the first magnetic material being at least partially positioned within the first drop of fluid. A second drop of fluid (18) is then placed at a second location on the surface of the drop merging area. A magnetic field is applied by a varying magnetic field generator (34) to at least a portion of the drop merge area of the substrate, which includes at least the first location on the substrate. The varying magnetic field will act on the first magnetic material (32) to move the first magnetic material within the first drop of fluid, causing a stirring of the fluid. A drop merging force from a drop merging mechanism is applied to at least one of the first drop of fluid and the second drop of fluid within the drop merge area. This causes at least one of the first drop of fluid and the second drop of fluid to move toward the other and make contact. The internal stirring of the fluid in the first drop of fluid by the movement of the magnetic material enhances the mixing of the constituents of the first drop of fluid and the constituents of the second drop of fluid.

摘要： A method for conducting a broad range of biochemical analyses or manipulations on a series of nano- to subnanoliter reaction volumes and an apparatus for carrying out the same are disclosed. The method and apparatus are implemented on a fluidic microchip to provide high serial throughput. The method and device of the invention also lend themselves to multiple parallel analyses and manipulation to provide greater throughput for the generation of biochemical information. In particular, the disclosed device is a microfabricated channel device that can manipulate nanoliter or subnanoliter biochemical reaction volumes in a controlled manner to produce results at rates of 1 to 10 Hz per channel. The individual reaction volumes are manipulated in serial fashion analogous to a digital shift register. The method and apparatus according to this invention have application to such problems as screening molecular or cellular targets using single beads from split-synthesis combinatorial libraries, screening single cells for RNA or protein expression, genetic diagnostic screening at the single cell level, or performing single cell signal transduction studies.

摘要： This invention relates to a bioreaction execution system and bioreaction execution method capable of producing electric fields in a flow channel, into which a solution with a target gene contained therein is dropped, on a DNA chip and causing the target gene to electrophoretically migrate, the DNA chip, an information processing system and information processing method, a program, and a recording medium. An AC supply unit 41 supplies an AC current to an electromagnetic induction generator unit 42, the electromagnetic induction generator unit 42 generates electromagnetic induction based on the thus-supplied AC current, and generates a magnetic field in adjacent to a flow channel which is formed on a mounted DNA chip 43 and into which a solution with a target gene contained therein is dropped.
