摘要： A shieldable needle device (12) including a drive member (28, 30) is disclosed. The drive member is extendable between a biased position and an extended position for moving a tip guard (24) from an first position to a second position in which the tip guard shields a distal end (34) of a needle cannula 20). The shieldable needle device includes a pair of wings (66, 68) extending laterally from opposing sides of a hub (22) that are movable between a laterally extending position and a dorsal position. With the wings in the dorsal position a gap (150) is formed between the hub and the pair of wings, in said dorsal position the wings retain the drive member in the biased position thereby maintaining the tip guard in the first position. Movement of the wings from the dorsal position to the laterally extending position releases retainment of the drive member. A second drive member may be included.

The catheter introducer is made by placing the blocking object into the shield and inserting the proximal end of the needle into the shield while the blocking object is in the shielding position. The catheter introducer is made using extruded polymeric tubes which may have coextruded reinforcing.

摘要： A safety shield system (60) for a compression syringe (10) having a compressible reservoir (46), a needle cannula (12) for fluid communication with the reservoir (46) and having a forward tip (16), the safety shield system (60) having at least a holder shield portion (62) designed to be attached to the compression syringe (10), and a movable shield portion (64), designed to be movable relative to the compression syringe (10) from a first position wherein the tip (16) is exposed, to a second position wherein the movable shield portion (64) covers the tip (16). The holder shield portion (62) and movable shield portion (64) being provided with retainer (51, 52, 70) arranged to cooperate in the first position to prevent the movable shield portion (64) from moving toward its second position.
